Next year’s Kindergarten families across Renfrew County are being invited to visit local schools this spring as part of a series of “Welcome to Kindergarten” events hosted by the Renfrew County District School Board.
Running through May and June, the sessions give families a chance to meet educators, tour classrooms, and learn more about what to expect when children begin school in September. The events are open to registered families as well as those still exploring Kindergarten options.
Director of Education Kristen Niemi says starting this fall, all Kindergarten classrooms in the board will implement Ontario’s updated 2026 curriculum, with a stronger focus on early literacy, numeracy, and science instruction. Play-based learning will continue to be a central part of the daily classroom experience.
The board says both Early French Immersion and Core French pathways will remain available at designated schools. Niemi says parents interested in learning more about these French programs should visit the recently-revamped RCDSB website for more details.
Niemi says the sessions are an important opportunity for families to connect with staff and begin building relationships ahead of the school year, and that the board appreciates feedback from parents based on the sessions.
