Families entering kindergarten next year are getting a firsthand look at the program thanks to the Renfrew County District School Board.
The RCDSB has begun a series of Welcome to Kindergarten events at schools across the region, including a stop at Eganville District Public School on Wednesday, May 6. The events serve as an open invitation for families to meet staff, explore classrooms, and experience the program ahead of the school year.
Director of Education Kristen Niemi says the events will help build early connections between home and school as the RCDSB implements Ontario’s updated kindergarten curriculum this fall, with an increased focus on direct teaching of reading, writing, math, and science while maintaining play-based learning.
Niemi adds that “families can feel confident that their children will benefit from a robust foundation in literacy and numeracy, all while flourishing in the nurturing, play-based environments our educators are so passionate about creating.”
