Barry Schimmens is running for a seat on Petawawa Town Council. Schimmens was born in Pembroke and moved to Petawawa when he joined the military.
The Petawawa candidate is a military veteran, retired from Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) after 24-years, a past volunteer firefighter and recent graduate of the social services program at Algonquin College.
Schimmens wants to build on the work of past and present councillors.
If elected, he would like to control spending and property taxes, focus on affordable housing, make by-laws more transparent and attract new business and industry.
Schimmens wants to keep Petawawa “dynamic by nature”.
Schimmens is one of the candidates running for a seat on Petawawa Town Council. Other candidates running in the October 24th Municipal Election are Simon Brooks, James Carmody, Lisa Coutu, Karen Donovan, Adam Driscoll, Gerald Hoffman, Matthew McLean, Cyndi Mills, Murray Rutz and Theresa Sabourin.
Gary Serviss and Jody Anne McDonald are the two candidates running to replace long-time Petawawa Mayor Bob Sweet who will not be seeking re-election after 34-years as an elected official and 22-years as Mayor.
