The Pembroke Public Library has reopened after extensive renovations. A grand reopening celebration is underway at the community hub located at 237 Victoria Street in the City of Pembroke. Before the library opened the doors at 10:00am this morning, there was a line-up outside of people waiting to come in.
Chair of the Pembroke Public Library Board and Laurentian Valley Councillor Keith Watt tells myFM he’s excited to see people come back in to the newly renovated facility. Watt says the renovations were expensive, but very well thought out and makes the library an even more friendly and warming space.
Pembroke Mayor Mike LeMay says the library is an extremely important resource for the community. LeMay tells myFM he has not been inside the library in roughly two years and says it’s amazing to see the changes with tremendous work going into the facility.
The Deputy Mayor for the City of Pembroke and former chair of the library board Ron Gervais says the library has something for everyone, from young children to seniors, and adds it’s an important piece of the community.
Pembroke Public Library CEO Karthi Rajamani tells myFM it’s nice to welcome people back into the building and see some familiar faces. Rajamani says staff are excited to be back open and serving people in-person again. She adds the library is giving away prizes every half hour today (Monday, April 4th, 2022) from a number of local businesses.
Rajamani says the library in Pembroke has new custom made shelving, new flooring and they resurfaced and refinished some of the original floors.
The CEO of the Pembroke Public Library says the new shelving can be moved to accommodate larger events.
The library in Pembroke is open from Monday to Saturday between the hours of 10:00am and 5:00pm. There is no cost for residents in Pembroke and Laurentian Valley to get a Pembroke Public Library card and access most resources available.
The Pembroke Public Library is also planning the return of an in-person multicultural festival this summer. myFM will share more details on the upcoming multicultural event in Pembroke later this week.
