Renovations are complete at the Pembroke Curling Centre making the facility fully accessible. Curling Club President Bill Cheliak says they were delayed waiting for certain materials.
The project included building a new ramp to the curling club and adding in an accessible washroom
Cheliak says it took 7-weeks to get the push button for the bathroom door and 3-months for the opener for the outside doors. He says back in January of 2020 they received an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant for just under $150,000 to help pay for the project.
Cheliak adds the Ontario Trillium Foundation worked with the curling club to make sure they were able to complete the project even with the delays.
The President of the Pembroke Curling Club says all of the leagues are open and people are happy to be back on the ice.
Pembroke Mayor Mike Lemay and Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP John Yakabuski attended the ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday (October 22nd, 2021) for the grand opening of the new ramp at the curling club.
