The Pembroke Curling Centre will transform over the summer months as a new accessible entrance is built. President of the Pembroke Curling Centre, Bill Cheliek says they are extremely grateful for the Ontario Trillium Foundation accessibility grant for $149,400. Cheliek says they will be installing a lift to get to the main floor with accessible washrooms for everyone to use. Work is expected to start this spring and wrap up in the fall.
The grant presentation took place as a part of the Community Bonspiel on Saturday. The President of the Curling Club says with an aging population, this is a great opportunity. Cheliek says curling has been around in Pembroke since 1872 and the current facility dates back over 50-years. He adds it’s a great winter sport that multiple generations are able to play and enjoy at the same time. Cheliek encourages anyone interested in trying it out to take part in the learn to curl program they offer.
