The Renfrew County United Way held its last Annual General Meeting as a standalone organization last night (June 29). It was announced that on April 1st of 2017, Renfrew County will be amalgamating with the United Way's of Ottawa, Prescott Russell and Lanark County.

RENFREW WOMAN GETS LIFETIME BAN ON OWNING ANIMALS

A Renfrew woman will not be able to own an animal for the rest of her life. On June 20th, Amanda Jennings was found guilty of six counts of animal cruelty, after the Ontario SPCA launched an investigation in October of 2015.

KINSMEN POOL NEEDS MAJOR REPAIRS TO REMAIN OPEN

Pembroke city council has plans for Kinsmen Pool if their application is approved under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program. Last year, council received a report that some major work will need to be done to the pool if they hope to keep it open.

The Equity: An 89-year-old woman may owe her life to the quick thinking of two young Otter Lake boys. The woman had fallen on the street beside a parked car and was unable to get back up.

ALLEGED FIGHT IN PEMBROKE LEADS TO DRUG CHARGES

An alleged fight in the Kinsmen Pool parking lot in the City of Pembroke led to a drug charge on Sunday night (june19). According to the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP, a witness flagged down an officer after they witnessed a physical altercation between two men.

LAURENTIAN HILLS COUNCILLOR'S DEATH LEAVES COUNCIL WITH BIG DECISION

No word yet on how Laurentian Hills may replace the late Dennis Hyde, who died earlier this month. The council met last Wednesday night (June 22) but the subject of how they may seek a replacement for the Ward 4 councillor was not on the agenda.
