The Town of Petawawa has passed the budget for 2022.
The budget was approved by council at their virtual meeting on Monday night (February 7th, 2022) which includes roughly $21.6-million in spending ($21,598,935).
Mayor Bob Sweet says homeowners in Petawawa can expect to pay an extra $17 in municipal taxes per $100,000 in property assessment.
For the average property assessed at $254,000 that works out to an extra $42 on their municipal portion of taxes.
Sweet says water rates in Petawawa will go up $17.25 and sewer rates will increase by $5.14 in 2022.
The combined water and sewer rate increase works out to $22.39 over last year. In 2022, the annual residential water and sewer rates in Petawawa will total $852.87 (per unit).
Some of the big ticket items in the 2022 budget include improvements at the Petawawa Point, the construction of Laurentian Highlands Park, the 25th anniversary celebration with a legacy project along the Algonquin Trail.

The service contract for curbside collection in Petawawa will cost the town upwards of $1.5-million. Total costs to operate the Petawawa Civic Centre in 2022 are expected to be over $2.8-million. An operating grant for the Petawawa Public Library is over $660,000 with $615,500 to be spent on winter operations. Costs for fire protection run $1.3-million in Petawawa with policing costs over $1.7-million.
