SRB Technologies (SRBT) has applied to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) to renew their Nuclear Substance Processing Facility Operating Licence for 15-years.
SRBT’s current operating licence expires on June 30th of 2022.
SRBT is locally owned and has been in operation in Pembroke since 1990, currently with 41 employees.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, SRBT shifted operations and acquired a medical license from Health Canada to produce over 10,000 face shields a week.
The local company manufactures self luminous lighting products that use capsules that are filled with tritium gas as a source of illumination.
SRBT says products are maintenance free and work without batteries and electricity and are widely used in areas where power is not readily available.
Signs are used to illuminate the way in various commercial buildings, mines and sewer systems.
SRBT also manufactures many illuminated products for the Canadian, American and British military with products also installed in a number of aircrafts to illuminate escape doors and routes.
SRBT continues to lower emissions and has seen a 98% decrease in Tritium released from 2005 (23,546 GBq/week) to 2020 (484 GBq/week).
As required by the CNSC a financial guarantee exceeding $727,327.00, entirely funded by SRBT is in place in a secure escrow account should the facility ever need to be decommissioned in the future.
A copy of the application to the CNSC can also be found on SRBT’s website.
