A triathlon that started this morning (June 24th, 2021) at Riverside Park in Pembroke is raising money for vulnerable and homeless animals.
Manager of the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre, Marianne Carlyle, started the day at 7:00am with a 1.5 kilometer swim from the beach at Riverside Park in Pembroke.
Carlyle hopes to finish her triathlon, which also includes 10-kilometers of running and 220-kilometers of cycling, within 12-hours.
Carlyle will be joined by the interim Manager of the Renfrew County OSPCA, Kate Graham, on a 5-kilometer run to the animal centre in Pembroke.
Graham says she through her own challenges as part of Sweat for Pets, she has run 150 kilometers over the last five weeks.
Graham has managed to raise upwards of $850 through the Sweat for Pets fundraiser.
She says recent renovations at the Renfrew County Animal Centre allow them to now offer adoptions for dogs.
Once Graham and Carlyle arrive at the animal centre in Pembroke, Carlyle will begin her 220-kilometer bike ride to Brockville.
Carlyle plans to cycle the back roads going through Micksburg, Calabogie and Perth.
Sweat for Pets is a five week fundraiser promoting active living and raises money for local animals.
Donations can be made to support Carlyle on her journey with all the money raised going to support homeless and vulnerable animals.
