Firefighters in Petawawa are still on the scene at Danny’s Steakhouse after a devastating fire destroyed the local landmark. Fire Chief Steve Knott tells myFM that crews arrived on the scene around 5:15 pm on Monday (April 27th) and they had the blaze under control by 11:00 pm. Knott says the fire started in the basement and quickly spread to the upper part of the building. The Petawawa Fire Chief says crews initially entered the basement and were forced to relocate due to a tangle hazard with electrical wires.
Knott says they had 21 firefighters attended the scene and they called in Garrison Petawawa for the use of an aerial apparatus. He adds this morning (April 28th) two firefighters were still on the scene. The County of Renfrew Paramedics took one individual to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the OPP went door to door making sure residents were staying at home due to the excessive smoke threatening nearby homes. Knott says his heart goes out to the owners and employees during this difficult time.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and the OPP and Fire Marshal’s Office are assisting with the investigation.
