Maclean’s Magazine is out with its annual Canada’s Most Dangerous Places List (2020), and two Renfrew County towns are on the list.
Pembroke and Petawawa are included on the national survey with 237 other communities across canada.
However, in both cases, it would appear that these towns are safer today then they were last year. Pembroke, which was ranked 11th on the list last year, is down to 43rd this year.
Petawawa has seen an almost 20 point drop in the change-in-crime rate, putting the Town at the extreme low end of the crime scale at 230th of 237.
Inspector Steph Neufeld, Detachment Commander with the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP says the report represents progress in crime prevention.
One area where Pembroke saw an increase was on the Violent Crime Severity Index, which has risen 105 points, while Petawawa dropped by 19 points.
