Madawaska Valley’s mayor-elect says she feels humble, thankful and amazed to have received the community’s support in her bid for the position.
Unofficial results released by the township show that Mary Blank won that particular race, securing 1,612 votes compared to her opponent Roger Prince’s 1,242 votes.
Blank, a current member of council for the township, says she was at the township office when the results came in.
Blank’s first order of business as mayor will be to ensure she and the rest of the team elected alongside her are educated and trained for their new positions, and to prepare their plans for the 2027 budget and the upcoming Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference.
She thanked her committee for their help on the campaign trail.
Current mayor David Shulist and current councillor Shelley Maika will join Blank for the next term after being elected to council positions, alongside newcomers Lisa Hildebrandt and Patrick Zelney.
Of those four, Maika received the most votes with 1,747, followed by Shulist with 1,745 and Hildebrandt with 1,622.
