The Canadian Army is conducting a large-scale training exercise in and around CFB Petawawa and communities across the Ottawa Valley from Oct. 13 to 30, with residents warned to expect increased military activity on local roads.
The 2nd Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group says Exercise LETHAL BEAR 26 will bring together soldiers and equipment from across the brigade for realistic, brigade-level training designed to maintain operational readiness.
The exercise will focus on individual and collective soldier skills, combined-arms integration and command and control. The training is intended to ensure Canadian Army personnel remain prepared to respond to military operations both at home and abroad.
Residents in the Petawawa area and surrounding communities may see increased movements of military personnel and equipment throughout the exercise, including wheeled and armoured vehicles travelling on public roads.
Soldiers will also establish temporary camps at selected local facilities and carry out logistical activities, including sustainment and resupply operations, as part of training scenarios designed to reflect the demands of real-world military operations.
The exercise will conclude with a large-scale road movement between Canadian Forces Base Petawawa and Sudbury on Oct. 27 and 28.
The brigade says the movement will give soldiers an opportunity to practise planning, coordinating and carrying out long-distance military movements, an important part of deploying personnel and equipment.
The Canadian Army says the exercise is part of its ongoing commitment to maintaining a trained and ready force and thanked local communities for their continued support as training takes place across the region.
