Airborne Petawawa brought together current and former Canadian Armed Forces members last week for a day of skydiving and camaraderie.
The Veteran Boogie, held Aug. 19, provided 15 tandem skydives from an altitude of 12,500 feet at no cost to selected participants, thanks to support from a corporate sponsor.
Participants were nominated and chosen based on their leadership, resilience and commitment to community values. The group included currently serving CAF members as well as veterans of the Canadian Airborne Regiment who served in the 1970s.
Morning weather temporarily delayed the jumps, but participants gathered for a catered lunch from Madameeks, connected with other members of the military community and received commemorative event T-shirts while waiting for conditions to improve.
Once the weather cleared, Airborne Petawawa’s team resumed operations and completed the tandem jumps.
Organizers described the event as an opportunity to recognize military service and resilience while bringing together multiple generations of Canada’s military community through a shared experience.
The Veteran Boogie was more than a day of skydiving, organizers said, providing a chance for participants to connect and celebrate their shared ties to the Canadian Armed Forces.
