Diane Fear of Maynooth is proving that sometimes lightning really can strike twice.
Fear recently bought a Catch the Ace ticket in support of another local hospital and won a weekly prize. She then decided to try her luck for the first time with the St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation’s Catch the Ace draw — and won again.
Fear said she had a feeling she was about to receive some good news. She even told her husband she expected a phone call telling her she had won.
Her prediction came true.
Fear purchased her Week 16 ticket at the foundation office and selected envelope No. 24 because it matches her husband’s birthday. The envelope contained the five of spades, but not the ace.
That still earned Fear the $1,044 weekly prize.
She says the money will help cover some bills and provide a little extra for a rainy day.
The Ace of Spades remains in play for Week 17. The estimated weekly prize is $1,100, while the progressive jackpot is approximately $27,119. Finding the ace would make the total estimated prize $28,219.
Tickets are available online until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, as well as through participating vendors across the Madawaska Valley.
Proceeds support local health-care needs at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care and The Valley Manor.
