A local author is celebrating the launch of her first novel in a few weeks and inviting the community to take part in the festivities.
Elizabeth Urso moved to Petawawa in 2021 with her husband, a military man. In addition to her work as a lawyer, Urso is a writer, and her debut novel Hail Mary launches on September 22nd.
According to Urso, the novel follows a woman named Mary Foreman who is summoned back to her hometown by her uncle, after her mother negatively affects his mayoral campaign.
She takes a teaching job to help make ends meet and opens a time capsule left at the school by her great grandmother.
The image of Foreman opening the time capsule was the first thing that came to Urso when she began writing the story, which she says was also inspired by Blind River, Ontario, where she spent her summers growing up.
This isn’t Urso’s first book, but it is the first that’s gone through the traditional writing process, which she says meant the book had a long writing process.
Saturday Morning Books and Analog in Deep River is partnering with Urso to host a launch event celebrating the book’s release. Urso will be interviewed by the store’s owner at Dog House Brewing Company in Petawawa on September 22nd, starting at 6:30 p.m.
Urso says tickets to the event are required but will be free, and that copies of Hail Mary will be available for purchase. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
