The Town of Petawawa is advising residents of two temporary road closures taking place over the next week, one for a cycling event and another for ongoing road reconstruction work.
On Saturday, August 8, Leeder Lane and a section of Civic Centre Road will be closed from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. to accommodate an Ontario Cycling event. The route will use the two roads to create a one-kilometre loop for participants.
Town officials say residents will continue to have access to their homes throughout the event, with alternate routes available to reach nearby subdivisions. However, motorists should expect temporary traffic delays in the area and are encouraged to follow the directions of event officials and traffic control personnel.
Beginning Monday, August 10, a separate road closure will affect Portage Road as reconstruction work continues.
Portage Road will be closed to all through traffic, including emergency vehicles, near 406 Portage Road until Friday, August 14, to allow crews to replace a deep cross culvert as part of the ongoing Portage Road reconstruction project.
Drivers are being asked to plan ahead and use alternate routes during the closure.
A temporary truck detour has also been established to accommodate commercial vehicles that cannot safely make the turn between Portage Road and Petawawa Boulevard because of existing medians and turning restrictions related to a Ministry of Transportation project.
The designated truck route will direct commercial traffic from Portage Road to Victoria Street, Laurentian Drive, Civic Centre Road and Petawawa Boulevard.
The town says residents living along the detour route may notice an increase in commercial truck traffic during the closure and is thanking the public for its patience and cooperation while the infrastructure work is completed.
