Local pet owners are being reminded to make sure their furry friends are well taken care of going into the August long weekend.
Heather Jobe from the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre is urging residents to remember not to let their pets get too hot, as warm summer weather is expected for the next few days.
Jobe says there’s no excuse to leave a pet unattended in a hot vehicle, where temperatures can reach dangerous levels very quickly.
If you can’t leave your pet at home, Jobe says you should plan ahead by shopping at pet-friendly businesses where you can bring your furry friend inside with you.
Meanwhile, for people planning to spend the long weekend at home with their pets, Jobe says you should be mindful that parts of your home in direct sunlight like a front porch can become very hot and potentially hurt your pets’ paws.
