Young baseball players in Pembroke will have an opportunity to face off against seven teams from other communities outside of Ontario this weekend.
Pembroke is the host of this year’s Little League Minor Provincial Championship. The event begins today and runs till July 31st, with an array of teams from across the province coming up to compete against the Upper Ottawa Valley Little League’s finest.
That’s Kyle Robinson, the coach of the River Cats. Robinson says various dignitaries will attend the opening ceremony, which will also include a ceremonial first pitch, before the tournament gets fully underway.
Robinson also says this is a rare opportunity for our city to host an event like this.
A banquet is also being held at the Quality Inn in Pembroke on Saturday night for the players and their families, Robinson says.
For any families interested in signing their kids up to take part in the Upper Ottawa Valley Little League next season, he says more information is available on the league website.
