A historic mural in Pembroke has gotten a glow-up thanks to the Pembroke Heritage Murals Committee.
Pamela Dempsey, the committee’s chair, says the “Timber Rafts” mural was created after the mayor and council of the era approached the committee in 2002.
The free-standing mural was created on Albert Street near Lake Street, depicting a timber raft on the Ottawa River. Real timbers jut out of the mural connected to painted ones depicted in the artwork.
Significant structural issues with the mural were identified in the summer of 2025, Dempsey says, which led to it being dismantled that October over the course of two weeks.
According to Dempsey, since spring arrived in the Ottawa Valley, a new structure to support the mural has been built and the panels have been restored by a local artist, and it’s been reassembled.
The committee is hosting a recognition event to thank everybody that helped to restore the mural on Friday, July 17th at 3:00 p.m.
Mayor Ron Gervais will also be in attendance for the event.
