The Ontario Provincial Police has joined the Canadian 30Forward initiative, committing to increase the number of women serving in uniformed policing roles across the organization.
The program encourages police services to recruit, retain and promote more women, with a goal of women making up 30 per cent of sworn officers. In 2024, women accounted for about 21.5 per cent of the OPP’s uniform members, with roughly 1,300 officers serving across the province.
The OPP says it will expand recruitment efforts while addressing barriers that may limit advancement, including opportunities for leadership positions. The service says increasing representation will help ensure its workforce better reflects the communities it serves and strengthen its ability to meet public safety needs.
