The Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has arrested a driver following an incident involving a vehicle that failed to stop for officers on Highway 17.
Police say the incident began June 27, 2026, shortly after 2:30 p.m., after receiving a complaint about a possible impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled at high speed. Police did not pursue and began an investigation.
The vehicle was later located in Head Clara Maria Township. After additional attempts to stop it, the driver fled again. Officers followed from a safe distance, with assistance from Mattawa OPP, and the vehicle was eventually stopped safely. The lone occupant was arrested and taken to hospital as a precaution.
