President and CEO of "Magi Made" Kuiper Magistrale
When I was eight years old, I have fond memories of playing baseball with my little brother in the park, watching cartoons with a bowl of cereal on the floor on Saturday mornings, and enjoying long, seemingly endless summers of leisure and carefree living. My thoughts were a long way from starting a business and becoming a millionaire.
Not so for Petawawa kids Kuiper and Massalia Magistrale.
Kuiper is eight and his sister, Massalia, is six, and they are the sole proprietors of Magi Made. No one can explain it better than President and CEO Kuiper.
The division of labour is clear and concise. The products are handmade and “kid tested,” and the level of enthusiasm for their venture is off the charts. It was about six months ago when Kuiper first came up with his business plan, and it’s pretty straightforward as most startup plans need to be.
Kuiper says the inspiration for the venture came from his love of building with LEGO bricks, while his sister enjoys arts and crafts, so he put “two and two together” (his words), and Magi Made was born.
Mother Catherine Magistrale remembers well when the whole idea came about. It happened at a time when most kids are simply trying to figure out much simpler parts of life, without such lofty goals.
Among the many lessons the kids are learning are public speaking, money management, and the responsibility that comes with setting goals and achieving them in an honest and forthright manner. All the boxes appear to be checked for Kuiper and Massalia.
Kuiper has even inspired one of his friends to start a lawn care business, so his influence in the local business community is already beginning to take shape.
You can also check out Magi Made products at the Petawawa Container Market on Aug. 14 during the Youth Market. One last word from the boss.
