Cheryl Gallant, Steve Bennett and Ed Jacyno taking in the Canada Day festivities
Despite the soaring heat and the risk of torrential downpours, hundreds gathered at Waterfront Park Wednesday to celebrate Canada’s 159th birthday.
Among the many dignitaries on hand was MP Cheryl Gallant, who said Canada Day is meant to be a day shared by everyone despite our differences.
Dozens of vendors lined the perimeter of the park, selling all kinds of wares, while people meandered around the grounds taking in the sights and sounds of the day.
Mayor Ron Gervais, who officially kicked off the day alongside RCL Branch 72 President Stan Halliday, said that even though Canada is a large country, there is a closeness we all feel, especially on Canada Day.
Laurentian Valley Mayor Steve Bennett was also on hand to kick off the ceremonies, thanking members of the Legion for all of the hard work that went into celebrating the day.
Many revellers said they would return to the park later that evening to take in the live music and fireworks, capping off an amazing day to be Canadian.
