The annual Upper Ottawa Valley Heritage Centre’s Strawberry Festival took place this past Sunday, and visitors had the opportunity to explore the museum and its historic outbuildings while taking in a variety of heritage demonstrations, including weaving, spinning and tatting.
Live music was featured throughout the day, with Matt Haycock performing from 11 a.m. to noon and Amanda Dupuis taking the stage from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. As always, one of the festival’s main attractions was cake and ice cream topped with locally grown strawberries supplied by McGregor’s Produce.
Moira Friske is the interim director of the UOVHC, and she looks forward to this fundraiser all year because it brings people from across the Ottawa Valley together for strawberries and a chance to look into the past.
Pembroke Mayor Ron Gervais and MPP Billy Denault were hard at work dishing out cake and strawberries to all.
As usual, events like these would not be possible without the invaluable efforts of the many volunteers who came out on a glorious summer day to greet visitors and help serve delicious treats to festival-goers. Lisa Swarbrick is one such volunteer. As the museum’s secretary, she enjoys the event because it’s a terrific way to stay connected with the community.
Moira hopes the day’s fundraising efforts will help keep the museum operating for many years to come and ensure it remains one of the Ottawa Valley’s most popular attractions.
