Two local women have caught the eye of the province for their dedication to their communities. Valerie Hinsperger and Andrea Levy have been named among 18 exceptional Ontario senior citizens to receive the 2025 Ontario Senior Achievement Award.
Hinsperger, the co-owner of Bonnechere Caves, helped create a beloved tourist attraction that educates thousands and provides meaningful employment.
Hinsperger has also dedicated herself to ensuring that older adults have access to recreational opportunities, through her work coordinating the Summer and Winter Seniors Games.
She is also active in the Eganville and Area Horticultural Society, the Ottawa Valley Food Coop and supports cancer patients at the Rainbow Valley Health Centre.
Andrea Levy of the Matawatchan-Griffith area is also getting an award for her work in helping residents stay active.
At 73, she leads three weekly exercise classes and also serves as Secretary of the Matawatchan Hall Board, helping coordinate various community events. She also maintains the Hall’s free lending library.
The Ontario Senior Achievement award was created in 1986 to recognize outstanding seniors who have made significant contributions to their communities.
