An annual cycling event showcasing Whitewater Region and the Ottawa River’s scenic bikeways is returning next month.
The latest Tour de Whitewater event is scheduled for Saturday, July 18th. Organizer John Purdon says this is the seventh year the event has taken place.
According to Purdon, somewhere between 400 and 500 riders typically take part each year, mostly seniors.
Purdon says the event officially begins at 6:00 a.m., although the earliest rides don’t begin till 8:00 a.mm, with people riding shorter distances leaving even later.
Registration for adults to take part in the tour currently costs $75, although Purdon says that price will increase to $75 after July 1st to encourage riders to sign up early.
Youths ages 11 to 17 can sign up for $15 each, and anyone younger than that can ride for free. Purdon says the registration money is put towards efforts to make Whitewater Region an attractive cycling destination for everyone.
Online registration for the event is available here.
