The Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation has received a $250,000 donation from Canadian Nuclear Laboratories and Nuclear Laboratory Partners of Canada to support its largest fundraising campaign to date.
The contribution, announced during the public launch of the foundation’s Together, We Care campaign, will be provided over five years and will help fund the purchase of a new CT scanner at Pembroke Regional Hospital.
Dennis Carr, president and chief executive officer of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, said the donation reflects the organization’s commitment to supporting the communities where its employees live and work.
“As one of the area’s largest employers, CNL recognizes the importance of supporting the communities where our employees live and work,” Carr said in a statement.
Hospital officials say the new CT scanner will enhance diagnostic services, improve patient care and help ensure residents can access medical imaging closer to home.
Campaign chair Dr. Christy Natsis said the donation represents a significant boost for the fundraising effort.
“It reflects a shared commitment to strengthening healthcare in our community and will have a lasting impact on patient care,” Natsis said.
The Together, We Care campaign aims to raise funds for three major priorities at the hospital.
The first involves the implementation of the Epic Integrated Health Information System, which will provide patients with access to the MyChart patient portal and allow them to play a greater role in managing their healthcare information.
The second pillar focuses on replacing the hospital’s current CT scanner with a next-generation model that officials say will provide faster imaging, improve diagnostic accuracy and contribute to better patient outcomes.
The third priority involves addressing other urgent equipment needs throughout the hospital.
Foundation board chair Lisa Edmonds said the contribution demonstrates the impact corporate partners can have on local healthcare initiatives.
“The generosity shown by CNL and NLPC is a powerful example of what can be achieved when organizations come together in support of healthcare,” Edmonds said.
Foundation executive director Roger Martin said donations of this size help ensure the hospital can continue investing in critical medical equipment while responding to growing healthcare demands.
Pembroke Regional Hospital president and chief executive officer Sabine Mermsann said investments in modern technology are essential to maintaining high-quality care and supporting physician and staff recruitment.
“Medical equipment is essential to delivering excellent care,” Mermsann said. “New and updated technology improves outcomes, helps us recruit and retain physicians and staff and, most importantly, helps patients return home safely to their loved ones.”
The Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation launched the Together, We Care campaign earlier this year to support equipment, technology and innovation projects aimed at improving healthcare services across the region.
