The Renfrew County and District Health Unit says more than 94 per cent of local students are compliant with provincial immunization requirements following its school-based catch-up campaign for the 2025-26 school year.
The health unit says the region continues to post one of the highest immunization compliance rates in Ontario under the Immunization of School Pupils Act. Measles vaccination coverage among students is approximately 95 per cent, meeting the threshold recommended for community protection.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jason Morgenstern said the results reflect a strong commitment from families and community partners to keeping students protected against vaccine-preventable illnesses.
“High immunization coverage helps prevent the spread of serious diseases and keeps schools safe,” Morgenstern said in a statement.
The health unit credited local physicians, family health teams and school communities for helping achieve the high vaccination rates.
Under Ontario’s Immunization of School Pupils Act, parents and guardians are required to ensure their children’s immunization records are up to date with public health authorities.
The health unit is encouraging families to report any new or missing vaccination records through its online reporting system, by email, fax or phone.
Residents without a primary care provider can access routine immunization clinics offered by the health unit throughout the county. An online booking system is now available for appointments beginning July 1, 2026.
Those seeking appointments before July 1 or requiring assistance with booking are being asked to contact the health unit’s Immunization Information Line.
