A flood warning remains in effect for areas along the Ottawa River between Pembroke and Arnprior as elevated water levels continue to affect low-lying regions, according to Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources.
The warning, issued by the ministry’s Pembroke District office, is expected to remain in place through Friday, May 22, unless updated or replaced.
Officials say water levels and flows along the river have stabilized and are expected to continue declining in the coming days. However, runoff from the northern part of the watershed remains high and continues moving downstream, keeping water levels elevated along the main stem of the river.
Minor flooding is expected to persist in some flood-prone areas, particularly in the Westmeath region.
Residents in vulnerable areas are being urged to monitor local conditions closely and take precautions to protect property near rivers and lakes.
The ministry says people should secure vulnerable items, stay aware of changing conditions and check regularly for updated flood information.
Officials say watershed and weather conditions continue to be monitored, with additional updates to be issued as needed.
