A local cycling group is thrilled to be able to use the newest section of the Algonquin Trail. The section from Deep River to Bissett Creek was completed late last fall but this is the first time this spring that the Algonquin Trailers Cycling Group was able to ride the entire 53 kilometres. The group’s Larry Warden says it’s one of the most scenic parts of the Algonquin Trail.
Warden’s group uses and promotes the Algonquin Trail but he says it’s the County of Renfrew that has done all of the work to convert the old CP rail bed into a multi-use recreational trail.
The next and final section of the Algonquin Trail is the 55 kilometres from Bissett Creek to Mattawa. For their part, the Algonquin Trailers are taking their bikes on the road with a planned excursion to Niagara Falls coming up soon.
