Days after the Ace of Spades was drawn, the winner of the million dollar jackpot in the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation’s weekly draw has received her prize.
Foundation officials announced Wednesday that Eve Denault of Westmeath won the grand prize after selecting card No. 39 in the weekly draw, receiving a jackpot of $1,031,026. In her own words, “one million and thirty-one reasons to support your local hospital.”
The lottery, presented by OK Tire Pembroke, supports the hospital’s priority equipment needs. Organizers said proceeds from ticket sales will help fund medical equipment and patient care initiatives at Pembroke Regional Hospital. The fundraiser brought in more than $1.6 million for the hospital overall.
“We are absolutely overwhelmed by the continued generosity of our community,” Roger Martin, executive director of the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation, said in a statement. “To see the Ace caught in week 46 and surpass $1.6 million raised is a testament to the incredible spirit of giving in our region.”
Sabine Mersmann, president and chief executive officer of Pembroke Regional Hospital, said the campaign’s success would have a lasting impact on local health care services.
“These funds will help finance a significant amount of equipment for our health-care facility,” she said.
Foundation board chair Lisa Edmonds said the campaign united residents while supporting the hospital.
“Catch the Ace truly is a win-win for our community,” she said.
Community fundraising specialist Leigh Costello thanked sponsors, ticket vendors and volunteers for their role in the campaign’s success and said organizers are already looking ahead to the next edition of the lottery.
The foundation said donations can continue to be made through its office or website.
