Pembroke’s Fire Chief is urging residents in town to make sure they’re prepared for possible emergencies.
Emergency Preparedness Week, an annual awareness campaign organized by Public Safety Canada, runs from May 3rd to 9th this year. Fire Chief Scott Selle says the campaign has been nationally recognized for several years.
Selle says he hopes this year’s “prepare together” theme means groups of residents are able to come together and assess the community’s needs in the event of a large-scale emergency.
Throughout the week, Selle says first responders are giving presentations at local schools to teach kids the importance of emergency preparedness. An event is also being organized later this month at the Pembroke 50+ Active Living Centre.
Beyond that, he says residents will have an opportunity to learn more about and discuss emergency preparedness with representatives from the city and the Fire Department at this weekend’s Community Expo.
The expo is running at the Pembroke Memorial Centre from May 8th to 9th.
Selle recommends anyone interested in learning more follow the Fire Department on Facebook.
