By the time our story on Vice-Regal Consort Whit Fraser’s visit to Arnprior airs, it may be eclipsed by events set in motion by Prime Minister Mark Carney, whom the CBC says is poised to announce Governor-General Mary Simon’s successor this morning (Tuesday).
The CBC says the next GG will be a woman, fluent in both French and English.
Vice-Regal Consort Fraser was at the Arnprior Library Sunday afternoon promoting his book, “From Ragged Ass Road to Rideau Hall.”
Both Whit Fraser, and outgoing Governor-General Simon are former journalists.
Law’s interest in attending the session was as a former resident of Yellowknife; and yes, there actually is a Ragged Ass Road.
Sharon says a picture may be worth a thousand words, but the book is jam-packed with reminiscences.
Fraser covers off many of the Northern stories he was the source of breaking- beginning with the 1978 descent of Soviet satellite Kosmos 954, which scattered radioactive debris across a swath of the Northwest Territories; as Law says, “the book literally opens up with a bang.”
