As we continue through Mental Health Week, which runs from May 4th to the 10th, we pause to take a look at some of the people and organizations in the Ottawa Valley who have dedicated themselves to improving mental health awareness and, in turn, overall well-being.
Rain Perry-Beaupre is the Client Service Manager at Forging Forward Counselling Services, and she describes their service as a judgement-free place to heal:
Forging Forward Counselling Services is an expanding team of regulated, highly trained professionals based in Pembroke, with more than 20 years of combined experience. The practice provides counselling, parenting support and education, vocational rehabilitation, and trauma-focused treatment.
Rain says that they see themselves as a larger part of the support system in the Upper Ottawa Valley as they work alongside many other community wellness resources.
As many in the industry will tell you, there are far more people who do not reach out for help than those who do. Rain and her team do everything in their power to make clients feel as though they have made the right decision in opening up to a professional.
Just as no two people are the same, similarly, no approach to a client’s issues is going to be the same as the next. Rain says that rather than “leading” their clients, they prefer to see it as walking alongside them—and clients feel the difference in that approach:
Each counsellor brings specialized training and focused areas of expertise, says Rain, along with ongoing professional development and the ability to work collaboratively as part of an integrated team. Collectively, the team has broad experience supporting adults, children and youth, couples, and families, in addition to providing specialized services including trauma-informed therapy and vocational rehabilitation with a focus on return-to-work support.
Rain says they have worked with people aged two up to senior citizens, so there are no age restrictions when it comes to counselling, and no two stories are alike:
Perry-Beaupre also speaks of prevention as a tool for mental well-being as a long-term solution in many cases:
