The recent amalgamation of the Phoenix Centre for Children and Families and Pembroke Regional Hospital is being described as a major step forward in local mental health care.
The official integration took effect April 1, bringing the two organizations together under one structure aimed at improving access and coordination of services for children, youth and families across the region. Leaders say the move will support more seamless, comprehensive and high-quality mental health care delivery.
On April 13, staff from both organizations gathered at the Phoenix Centre to recognize the milestone and the collaborative work that made the transition possible. The event brought together much of the Phoenix Centre team along with Pembroke Regional Hospital staff who contributed to the planning and implementation process.
During the informal “welcome” reception, PRH president and CEO Sabine Mersmann and Phoenix Centre executive director Sue Kennedy offered brief remarks highlighting the importance of the partnership and the benefits expected for clients and families.
Attendees were also treated to cake and refreshments, received Pembroke Regional Hospital-branded welcome packages, and took part in a symbolic ribbon-tying ceremony marking the unification of services.
