Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke’s former MP is receiving some recognition for his achievements outside the world of politics.
Hector Clouthier Jr., who served as the region’s MP from June 1997 to November 2000, is being inducted into the Petawawa Sports and Entertainment Hall of Fame.
The hall recognizes and celebrates the athletic and artistic achievements of people from Petawawa.
Clouthier’s induction follows a long career in the worlds of both horse racing and long-distance running.
Clouthier has been an avid horse racer for decades and served as the Executive Director of the Ontario Horse Racing Industry Association from 2007 to 2010.
Meanwhile, as a runner, Clouthier has competed in dozens of races, including multiple Boston Marathons. He also took part in the New York Marathon in 2024 at the age of 75.
Clouthier’s political career saw him elected to represent Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke as a member of the Liberal party. After losing his bid for re-election in 2000, he took a break from federal politics before running again as an Independent candidate in 2011 and 2015.
Clouthier is being inducted to the hall of fame’s sports wing, alongside 1949 Grey Cup champion Glenn Douglas and professional swimmer Alyson Ackman. Comedian and actor Tom Green is also being inducted as part of the 2026 class in the hall’s entertainment wing.
