It has been a busy start to the week for the Madawaska Valley Fire Department.
After spending 24 hours containing a blaze off of Highway 62 between Barry’s Bay and Combermere on Sunday and Monday, firefighters were sent to another fire off of Curtis Road on Tuesday morning.
The fire was easily contained, but the fire department says they have had to respond to several incidents in the past three days, including intentional field burns, fires caused by lithium batteries, garbage burning, and brush fires.
Spring conditions can allow fires to spread quickly, and the fire department is asking residents to use extreme caution when working with any type of fire.
That includes getting proper burn permits and following their guidelines for fire sizes, as well as properly disposing of cigarette butts.
