Police were keeping a very close eye on commercial vehicles late last week in Bonnechere Valley township. The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP partnered with the Ministry of Transportation to conduct an enforcement initiative at the intersection of Highway 41 and Highway 132 last Friday, April 24. The primary focus was on mechanical safety and 17 commercial vehicles were inspected as a result. Two vehicles were taken off the road for violations of hours of service and load security. Seven highway traffic act charges were laid. The enforcement also checked to see if commercial drivers were in compliance with the law stating that they must a zero blood alcohol level in their system while driving. Nineteen roadside tests were administered on the commercial drivers and all who were tested, passed. Police say more of these CMV safety initiatives are planned for later this year.
