The Renfrew County Catholic District School Board says its director of education has received a provincial honour recognizing his leadership in Catholic education.
Mark Searson was presented with the 2026 Distinguished Leadership Award at the Ontario Catholic Association of Supervisory Officers annual banquet on April 16, the board said in a release.
Searson has spent more than three decades in education, including roles as a teacher, department head, principal and supervisory officer before becoming director of education in 2021.
The board says his leadership has focused on student achievement, well-being and faith development, as well as system-wide initiatives such as instructional improvement and technology modernization.
Searson has also contributed at the provincial level through his work with the supervisory officers’ association and the Eastern Ontario Staff Development Network, where he has supported leadership development and professional learning.
In a statement, Searson called the award “a deeply humbling experience” and said he was grateful to serve Catholic families in Renfrew County.
Board chair Bob Schreader said the recognition reflects Searson’s impact on students, staff and the broader community, as well as his role in guiding the board through challenges and promoting a faith-based approach to education.
The Distinguished Leadership Award is presented annually to individuals who demonstrate commitment to leadership, service and excellence in Ontario’s Catholic education system.
