The County of Renfrew says it is moving ahead with plans to develop a new section of its recreation trail network along a former rail corridor.
Officials say the county will assume responsibility for a roughly 42-kilometre stretch of former CN rail line running from the Quebec border in Whitewater Region to Hawthorne Lane in Laurentian Valley. The route is currently used as part of the “B Trail” by the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs and the Renfrew County ATV Club.
The land was previously acquired by the two municipalities, with ownership now being transferred to the county for long-term maintenance and development.
As part of the project, the county is launching a public consultation to name the new trail section. Residents are invited to submit suggestions reflecting local history, geography or natural features.
Officials say submissions will be accepted until April 30, with a shortlist of names to be released later for public voting.
