The City of Pembroke is reminding us that a a full-scale emergency exercise will be conducted later this month at the Pembroke Memorial Centre involving multiple response agencies.
Officials say the drill is scheduled for April 22 from about 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m., with setup beginning earlier in the morning. The scenario will simulate a hazardous materials leak inside the arena and require activation of the municipality’s emergency operations centre.
Participants will include the Pembroke Fire Department, Renfrew County paramedics and the Ontario Provincial Police, along with other municipal and regional partners.
The city says there is no risk to the public and emergency vehicles will not use lights or sirens. Temporary road closures will be in effect near the facility, including sections of Lake Street and controlled access on Monroe Street.
Officials say nearby schools and transit providers have been notified, with no expected disruption to bus routes or school operations. Residents are asked to allow extra travel time and follow posted detours.
