A 53-year-old driver from Whitewater Region is facing impaired driving charges after being stopped at a RIDE program in Pembroke, police said.
Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police’s Upper Ottawa Valley detachment were conducting a spot check in the city around 8 p.m. on March 17 when they encountered the vehicle.
Police say an impaired driving investigation was launched after officers spoke with the driver. A roadside screening device was used, and the individual was taken to the detachment for further testing.
Shawn Wagner has been charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 milligrams or more.
Police said the accused received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Wagner was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 14.
The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP says it continues to conduct RIDE programs throughout the year at all hours in an effort to keep roads safe.
