Renfrew’s Lucas Gillan was lucky; now his family wants to help others who are not.
As Lucas continues his recovery following a successful live kidney transplant that came after a months-long social media campaign rallying support from the community, his family is urging potential donors to register through the Trillium Gift of Life Network’s Be A Donor website.
In their call to action, the Gillans note that over 1,500 people in Ontario are currently waiting for organ transplants, and many often have to wait a long time to find a live, or even a deceased, donation.
Only 35% of Ontarians are currently registered as consenting donors, something Lucas’ family says is not good enough while someone in the province waiting for a life-saving transplant dies every three days.
