Ottawa Valley-area high school girls got a taste of the trades this week courtesy of Algonquin College.
The school’s Pembroke campus hosted its annual Jill of All Trades event on Thursday, March 8th, allowing girls from various high schools across the region to learn about the trades in interactive workshops.
Students at the event got to experience a variety of workshops centered around the nuclear industry, carpentry, computer systems, electrical work and forestry.
Scarlett, a student from the Arnprior area, said she had a great time during the three workshops she attended during the day.
Ellie, also from Arnprior, highlighted the computer systems workshop she got to take part in.
Both Scarlett and Ellie said they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and look forward to attending again next year.
Heather Fergison, a millwright with Ontario Power Generation, gave a keynote speech at the event where she urged students to keep their options open as adults until they figure out what career they enjoy.
Fergison also told students to pursue their passions, no matter what those are.
