Residents will need to pay a fee soon to have their City of Pembroke parking permits replaced if they lose or misplace them.
At the March 3rd Planning and Development Committee meeting, Planning, Building and By-law Enforcement Director Colleen Sauriol issued a recommendation to introduce a $20 fee to replace a lost or misplaced parking permit.
Sauriol explained during the meeting that the fee is being introduced to help offset the time it takes for city staff members to create a new permit.
Her recommendation also included some requested amendments to the city’s existing parking bylaws. One of those amendments involved correcting the accidental failure to designate the south side of Carmody Street as a no-parking zone.
According to Sauriol, it has been signed and enforced as a no-parking zone since 2005, due to its narrow width and importance as a bus route, but isn’t currently designated as one in the current by-law.
The other amendment, meanwhile, is meant to make the parts of the city where overnight winter parking is restricted easier for residents to understand, as Sauriol says the current wording is confusing and unclear.
Council ultimately voted unanimously in favor of Sauriol’s recommendations. Draft bylaw amendments are expected to be presented to council during the next council meeting on March 17th.
