The Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation is launching its fourth annual Community Challenge for Healthcare next month, calling on residents and businesses to raise money for priority equipment needs at the local hospital.
The month-long campaign runs from March 1 to March 31 and invites participants to become “Healthcare Challengers” by organizing fundraisers in support of Pembroke Regional Hospital.
Funds raised this year will go toward the purchase of two new patient beds, equipment that is not fully covered by government funding, foundation officials said.
“We have partnered with myFM, who will be featuring the ‘Healthcare Challengers’ on the radio to announce their fundraising successes and give thanks for their support of local healthcare,” said Leigh Costello, community fundraising specialist with the foundation.
Roger Martin, executive director of the foundation, said the annual challenge helps address the hospital’s most urgent equipment needs.
“A ‘Healthcare Challenger’s’ goal is to raise funds in support of the greatest priority equipment needs at the Pembroke Regional Hospital which are not fully funded by the government,” Martin said, adding he looks forward to seeing the community’s fundraising ideas and celebrating participants’ efforts.
Last year’s challenge included a range of initiatives by individuals and businesses, from donating a portion of sales from specific products to collecting customer contributions at checkout counters and hosting yard sales, Costello said.
“The fundraising ideas are endless,” she said.
This year’s Community Challenge for Healthcare is sponsored by several local businesses, including Frank Carroll Financial, The Brick Pembroke, Roseburg Forest Products, Stephanie Hughes, MacEwen and 104.9 myFM.
Individuals, groups and businesses interested in taking part can contact the foundation for more information.
