A Pembroke resident is facing an impaired driving charge after Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police recovered a stolen vehicle earlier this month.
Police say officers were called to a parking lot on Alexander Street in Pembroke on Feb. 5, 2026, at about 9:30 a.m. following a report of a man found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The vehicle was located and the driver was taken into custody.
Investigators conducted a standard field sobriety test at the scene, followed by further evaluation by a drug recognition expert at the OPP detachment.
As a result, 39-year-old Meryl McGivern has been charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs under the Criminal Code.
Police say the accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was returned to its owner. McGivern was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on March 3, 2026.
