Local families interested in trying ice fishing will have an opportunity to go out on the lake and enjoy the hobby with help from volunteers next month.
The province of Ontario allows Canadian residents to fish for free without a licence four times a year. The first opportunity this year is scheduled for February 14th to 16th.
To mark the occasion, the Renfrew County 4-H Association – a youth organization supporting various communities throughout the Ottawa Valley – is hosting a family fishing derby.
The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 15th in Eganville, with youth volunteers on hand to guide families through the day of ice fishing and an outdoor play area for kids set up in Melissa Bishop Park.
Registration will be required on-site, and there will be contests with prizes that require a registration fee. 4-H Association members will also be offering a hot lunch on site for purchase.
Updates on the event will be posted to the Renfrew County 4-H Association’s public Facebook page.
